CHESS-affiliated researchers Sara Brolin Låftman and Sol P. Juárez are among Stockholm University’s newly appointed professors for the 2025/2026 academic year.
Research across different dimensions of inequality
Sara Brolin Låftman is Professor of Public Health Sciences with a focus on the social sciences. Her research focuses on the living conditions and health of children and young people, with particular emphasis on mental health. Her work has examined how family circumstances and school environments are related to well being, as well as how mental health during adolescence is connected to later education, employment and health care use.
Sara currently serves as Program Manager on a research project which uses the Swedish national Futura01 cohort to investigate mental health across adolescence and young adulthood. Her current work includes studies of depression and anxiety, social relationships and inequalities in young people’s mental health.
Sol P. Juárez is Professor of Public Health Sciences with a focus on health inequalities. Her research investigates how social conditions and public policies shape health, particularly among migrants and their children. An important strand of her work examines how conditions in the country of residence contribute to changes in migrant health and the development of health inequalities over time.
Her research also explores the health consequences of social policy. This includes studies of parental leave and its potential effects on parents’ mental health, as well as recent work examining how changes in eligibility for social security benefits may affect groups already experiencing socioeconomic disadvantage.
