The CHESS framework
The work at CHESS is organised across three main activities: research and knowledge development, communication and cooperation, and collaboration.
01
Research and knowledge development
We are researchers from a wide range of academic disciplines that work together to produce high-quality studies addressing the complexities of health inequalities and their social determinants.
02
Communication and cooperation
We communicate and cooperate with Swedish and international educational institutions, research centres and environments, organisations, and networks active within the health inequalities field.
03
Collaboration
We promote health inequalities research at the Department of Public Health Sciences at Stockholm University and serve as a link for collaboration between Stockholm University and Karolinska Institutet.
Organisation

The organisational structure of CHESS is comprised of a board, external advisory board, and steering committee.
Meet our researchers

Meet our researchers is a monthly interview series with CHESS staff, including researchers and doctoral students, as well as guest researchers and external collaborators.
History

Founded in 2000,CHESS brought together researchers from Stockholm University and Karolinska Institutet who were concerned with the widening of social inequalities in health. Over the years, the centre has gone through many changes, but the core mission of producing high-quality research that can help to tackle health inequalities remains.
